Melbourne has lovely seaside suburbs and spectacular beaches only a short drive away. Melbourne is a great base to explore the beauty that is Victoria.

The centre of the city is taken up by the CBD (central business district) where streets are straight and meet at 90 degree angles. Apart from the tallest building of Melbourne (the new Eureka Building) you’ll find shops, restaurants, bars and Chinatown here.
Outside of the CBD the inner suburbs start. Each suburb has its own character. In Richmond many Vietnamese live, thus Victoria street is filled with authentic Vietnamese Resturants.
Another suburb is Carlton where, along Lygon Street, you’ll find many Italian restaurants. Each restaurant has an employee standing at the front to lure people into their place. In Carlton Gardens the Melbourne Museum is located and an IMAX movie theatre.

South of the CBD you’ll find Federation Square with galleries, cinema, restaurants. Further south there is the Victorian Arts centre and the Melbourne Theatre.

Melbourne is the birth place of the Australian football league (AFL). A visit to a footy match is one of the things to do. There are two stadiums: the MCG (Melbourne cricket ground) and Telstra Dome.

This station acts as a perfect springboard to the Melbourne Central Shopping Centre. Walk from the underground shelter of the station into climate-controlled comfort where you will find among specialty souvenir and gift stores. From here, other large department stores, such as David Jones and Myer, are in close proximity. While Melbourne Central Station does not link with interstate trains, it will lead you directly to the heart of good shopping in Melbourne’s city centre.

The four levels of the complex house restaurants, bars, designer fashion shops, entertainment venues, a 24-screen cinema complex, a five-star hotel - and of course the Casino, which attracts an international clientele and is now Victoria’s biggest tourist attraction. The Showroom, Odeon Cabaret, Mercury Lounge and Heat Discotheque often host international acts. An age limit of 18 years applies to the gaming rooms and bars.
